Waking up from a Dream

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Unfortunately, the word “boring” best describes our surf for the last 10 days; it has been like waking up from a dream. The worst winter on record became an epic spring which went on and on and on………….. We knew it would come to an end, but maybe not so abruptly. Its around this time of year that I believe surfers can actually feel physical withdrawals from a sudden lack of adrenaline compared to the massive surges of it we get all winter long. Let’s face it the only rush you would have had lately was when that kook on the 12 foot longboard almost ran you over. I don’t think any of us feel the slump too long however, since there is probably a huge pile of paperwork, laundry or whatever else you have been putting off since the surf started bombing in January. The Northshore certainly has a silence like winter is over. The sand is piling back up on the beach and there is noone around, but you can never give up hope for April and May especially with a sizable swell predicted for this coming Saturday which would set us up for another round of uncrowded surf.  I can’t go without a message of hope that we did get a 12 ft Pipe swell on April 23 last year and one of our biggest Waimea days around that time as well. If your like me, you’ve learned not to get your hopes up for this La Nina Northshore season, but make sure to stay tuned to “The Pipeline”
