Last chance to save present Public Recreational user parking @ Ala Wai Harbor

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Aloha. I haven’t even looked at the surf today because I can tell by the cams it is pretty small everywhere and I am getting everything done so I can surf town when it gets good. My friend told me it is head high in town right now around midday but nothing significant yet. Here is a link to the flier about the hearing on Wednesday. That is the main reason for this update. flier for public hearing on Wed

Surf Vog

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

We had a fun little swell for the last few days in the country. It got up to 6 ft during a couple pulses and had clean conditions in the mornings and evenings with seabreezes midday. It was a NNW swell so not perfect anywhere, but Rocky Rights seemed to be where the action was. Guys like Sean Moody, Jason Shibata, Pancho Sullivan and Joel Centeio were going off out there all weekend. The Vog has been spectacular and the culprit of itchy eyes, coughing, can’t breathe, joint pain, migranes and even nausea, but the trades were back and should be cleaning it all up. Ho, this south swell is no joke, I just checked out the pics from the Teahupoo trails in Tahiti and it looks like the real deal. It should peak Tues night into Wednesday which is quite convenient for anyone who wants to attend the public hearing to keep Bowls (Ala Wai Harbor) parking free. The meeting will be held Wednesday night April 30th at 6pm so make sure to hang out and show some support if you don’t want to pay a parking attendant to surf at the South shores most exclusive surf spots.

late April

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

What a pretty morning we had today on the Northshore today. A little NNW swell in the 1-3 foot range with perfect conditions. I surfed Pipe all by myself until about 30 kids got off the bus with their boogies claiming “teachers work day” but I enjoyed them, it was certainly a change from the intense line ups we get all winter. Off the wall had a little more swell than Pipe, but there were crystal clear little waves everywhere

South Shore comes Alive

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

This was meant to be posted on April 19, 2008 Its been pretty fun in town the last few days! Thursday had some solid 4 ft sets but the wind got into it real good around midday. Friday was the best with some solid 5 footers that were barreling through the big bowl and this morning had a few left overs before the tide got real high and the swell kinda died this afternoon. The Northshore started out real small this morning at about 1-3 ft but rose to 2-4 with some solid 5 footers by this afternoon. The swell looks real NE again and the trades were pretty gusty. Lanis was the best, but still kinda broken up with the wind and east in the swell. There were a couple long rides, but mostly it was broken up in two sections and not lining up all the way through. Hawaiianwatershots.com, Hawaiianswell.com and GaryMScreations.com all have a small selection of the last few days of waves in case you want to check it out.

Hype?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Well, a few people have been raving about the last 4 days of surf at Lanis that I pretty much dissed in my last blog. Its funny how you get these conflicting reports where one person says its 6-8 and “all time” while another who surfs on the very same day will say that “it wasn’t really even working out there”.  Its kinda funny how our standards vary depending on what month it is and how long its been since we had surf. Basically waves which are treasured in April might be considered laundry days late January. Country dropped back to about 1-3 today and town came up and was a little larger than the country on the biggest sets. The conditions were beautiful this morning and evening, but we had seabreezes midday. We will see if this south swell materializes in the next couple days.
