Season in Swing!
November 4th, 2009 by LaneJust sitting here at Pipe waiting for recruits, but noones out. Finally one guy walked by to go out Poops, but it looks like he ditched his board and and went for a swim instead. Its pretty bad today, just a rough river out here really. Sunday was the day! Surf was 12-15 ft range that morning, most spots were washing through untill about 10am when the ocean started to settle down. It was around that time that the Xcel Pro got started at Sunset. By midday the swell dropped back quite a bit from the morning, but then it pulsed again that evening and there were some beautiful 12 ft waves at Pipe where all the boys were getting a good little feed. Hank Gaskel won the contest with Pancho Sullivan second and Myles Padacca third. Saturday morning the swell dropped back into the 6-8 ft range and was much smaller that evening before the storm. Monday, a pretty solid 6-8 foot North swell came in that was riddable, but pretty terrible. In case you didn't hear Koko Ho won her 1st WCT event! The girls are out Pipe more than ever this season and I already saw Claire, Keala and Bethany Hamiliton get some sic tubes. Maya is in a league of her own towing in at big Teahupo'o and getting spit out, then coming out Pipe and taking off deep. This week doesn't appear to be as exciting on the charts, but looks like there will be waves in both town and country.
