The Northshore has been on the stormy side lately. We are quite spoiled after all the west swells with epic conditions so these close together north swells have been kinda, blah. For the past few days, morning sickness has been the rule and then by around 10 am it cleans up a little and gets somewhat decent at the sandbars and Pupukea. The kids have been out there practicing for the Oakley event which should be going on at Turtle Bay this weekend. The Triple Crown kicks off next week, November 12th at Ali'i Beach Park. It sure is quiet this year. I mean seriously, I have been waiting for someone to show up most mornings this week so I don't have to paddle out all alone and there is just no one around to be found early. Definitely not the typical season with so many pro surfers and an their entourage preying on every bump of swell and spec of light. Matter of fact, it still feels like its pretty much just us, the locals. That may change next week, but you can certainly feel the effects of the economy this surf season. My husband, Sean Davey said the XCEL contest was swarming with stickerless surfboards and therefore sponsorless surfers. I guess we are all getting back to our roots. Town got a nice swell yesterday and had 4 foot waves with epic NE wind conditions. Today wasn't quite as good, but there were still some really fun waves down there with more expected through the middle of the month. North swells appear to be the trend in the country for the upcoming week, but there still should be plenty of surf to go around.
